Summary
While most people know about the United States’ embargo with Cuba, many don’t know the history that led to it and its consequences on US-Cuba relations. Professor Domenech details the sequence of historical events that led to the Cuban embargo (El Bloqueo, for Cubans) that has lasted for over 50 years. She looks at the political corruption under Fulgencio Batista, who served first as Cuba’s president from 1940 to 1944 and later as dictator of the island country from 1950 to 1959, when he was exiled and replaced by Fidel Castro. Viewing it from the perspective of the Cuban people, she explores the relationship between the United States and Cuba from before the embargo to present day
