Summary
Before setting sail, we will see of some of the highlights of Paris including the Eiffel Tower, the Dorsay Museum, The Orangery and Monet’s Water Lilies, Notre Dame and La Sainte Chapelle, and other sights. The first stop on the river is Auvers-Sur-Oise where Vincent Van Gogh spent the last few months of his life. You will see where he painted the Wheat Field with Crows, the Church, and the Stairway, where he lived, and the side-by-side graves of Vincent and his brother, Theo. The next stop is Giverny and a visit to Monet’s home and his bridge and water lily pond. In Les Andelys, we visit a hilltop fortress built during King Richard’s rein. In Rouen, the capital of Normandy, we see where Joan of Arc was imprisoned, tried for treason, and burned at the stake. The Seine ends in Honfleur, the prettiest little town that I have ever seen. It was from here that Samuel de Champlain left on his voyages of discovery. It is also from here that we explore the surrounding area including the D-Day landing beaches, The German battery at Longues Sur Mer, Point du Hoc where allied forces scaled a 328 foot cliff, D-Day museums, and the Military cemetery. Also from here, we visit the famous 225-foot long Bayeux tapestry that depicts the story of William’s conquest of England where he defeated Harold, his cousin, at the Battle of Hastings in 1066
