Note
In St. Petersburg we visit St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Winter Palace and the Hermitage, and the Peter and Paul Fortress where Tsar Nicholas II and his family, including Anastasia, are entombed. We also see the battleship Aurora that fired the signal to start the October 1917 revolution, visit Catherine's Summer Palace and the Amber Room, and Peterhof, Peter's retreat with its hundreds of fountains. We leave St. Petersburg on the Neva River, cross Lake Lagoda, Russia's largest lake, and stop in Svir Stroi where we leave the ship to have tea with a local family. At Kizhi Island we visit an open-air museum that includes many original buildings moved here from elsewhere and a large onion-domed church built entirely of wood without nails. We also make several other stops along the way to visit historical churches, towns, and to attend concerts. On the way we learn about Matryoshka nesting dolls, how to drink vodka, and try our hand at cooking Russian food. In Moscow, we visit Red square, the Kremlin, St. Basil's Cathedral, Stalin's tomb, Moscow's largest department store, the beautiful Moscow subway stations, and the famous Moscow circus
